While we mere mortals have been scrambling to find coupons and holiday deals (some of us going as far as attempting to shop on the terror that is Black Friday), the wealthy find themselves showered with free wares. That’s the most ironic thing about suddenly hitting it rich. All the things you can now afford, people send you for free. That’s the case with mega popstar Rihanna, who tweeted pics of her early Christmas presents. Some of the year’s trendiest It bags arrived at her door with personalized notes and personalized initials embroidered into them for her. One of them is the tartan Prada Bowler bag and the Versace Medusa bag, both of which are really big deal. Too bad we can’t all be famous for beauty and popularity, if that’s what it takes to have designers send you free loot!
Lady Gaga showed up in New York this weekend looking like an absolutely fabulous cross between Marilyn Monroe and Jackie O. For once, her outfit is all class with a touch of drama, minus the over the top theatrics. Her nose seems to be shrinking but her hair is more vivacious than ever (even though it’s probably a wig.)
The bag she was spotted carrying was the Versace Medusa Tote, which is STILL not available in stores. You can shop for it online but it hasn’t been released to the pubic yet. The Medusa hardware in gold is Versace’s icon and they seem to be trying to make it as recognizable as Louis Vuitton’s monogram, Herme’s H and Chanel’s double C’s. We like it so we’re in favor of this new trend. So far, the one other celeb who’s been seen with this tote was Selena Gomez during Paris Fashion Week. She was carrying it during a meeting with Anna Wintour so you know this bag has the approval of fashion’s biggest power players. Future It bag for sure!
Earlier this month, Vogue editor Anna Wintour canceled the Miley Cyrus cover shoot. Recently, another former Disney celeb was spotted leaving meeting with the queen of cool. Could this mean Selena is vying for her own Vogue cover? Selena is cute but her baby face just isn’t Vogue material – yet. In a couple of years when her cheekbones come out and she has more well-known music hits or movies in the pipeline, she might be the perfect cover girl.
The bag she was carrying was the Versace Medusa bag. Being an Italian brand, Versace is known for the Roman-influenced art in their designs. The figurehead on the top of the bag is supposed to be from Greek/Roman mythology. Medusa was known for her magical powers and unruly mane of snakes. Medusa is actually Versace’s brand icon and it makes the piece instantly recognizable as a part of the label.
Oh Miley, finally you’re wearing something other than a crop top and high waisted shorts. This former Disney Queen made herself a household name early after her hit TV show Hannah Montana took off. She then became involved in various controversies to which she replied “I can’t be tamed” in song. We do not like her usual style at all! Its like the girl has hundreds of millions but no personal stylist!
In the picture above Miley Cyrus is carrying a Versace signature tote with a black and white outfit. The tote is very simple, elegant, and clean cut. It goes great with her edgy look and keeps it classy. This Versace tote retails for about $2,500. We think that even though Miley rarely hits the right notes with her fashion sense, you should follow her lead on this one. Color blocking, whether with black and white or bright colors is definitely the way to go with a plain bag as the Versace signature tote.
Yet another H&M designer collaboration is upon us, and this one promises to be major: Versace for H&M.
The fall 2011 collection is designed by creative director Donatella Versace, and according the press release published Tuesday, promises to “recall the vibrant heritage of the brand, complete with leather, prints, color and exuberance in exclusive materials at fantastic H&M prices.
Donatella gushed in the same press release, “I am thrilled to be collaborating with H&M and to have the opportunity of reaching their wide audience. The collection will be quintessential Versace, perfect for H&M and Versace fans everywhere.”
Unlike other designer collaborations (we’re looking at you, Missoni for Target), sneak peeks of the Versace for H&M collaboration are already available…and they look fabulous. Expect to see fashionable young ladies camping out on the sidewalks to get a taste of these not-so-cheap thrills when they hit select US stores November 19.
Check out the video below to see what Donatella has planned for this fall!
Lady GaGa’s fashion love affair with Versace continued at the 2011 Much Music Awards on Sunday.
Throughout the awards, Gagaloo donned multiple looks from the house of Versace ranging from couture to vintage.
For her Edge of Glory performance, GaGa wore Atelier Versace jumpsuit entirely encrusted with black Swarovski crystals.
During Born This Way, she opted for a more comfortable ensemble that included a Gianni Versace S/S 1992 leopard print jacket with gold Medusa buttons and black trousers with gold detailing.
GaGa’s first acceptance speech look consisted of a Vintage Versace printed trench coat, beaded Vintage Versace pants and a Vintage Versace top encrusted with colorful Swarovski crystals.
And for the final outfit of the night GaGita posed with her two awards wearing a Vintage Versace bright blue and black suit with printed pants and the “January J” sunglasses in gold with gold lenses.
