American singer/actress Selena Gomez stuns in her first ever campaign for Louis Vuitton. Although an ambassador for the luxury brand since just 17 years of age she has now been cast with her edgy, new look and her taut midriff exposed in the Louis Vuitton Series 5 campaign, a venture that was first hinted at back in May when a photo of her and Nicolas Ghesquiere, the luxury brands creative director, was featured on the cover of Vogue Brazil.
This is without doubt one of Louis Vuittons most eye catching campaigns of recent years, there is no mistaking the beautiful former Disney princess as she strikes a pose in patterned, high-waisted leggings paired with a leather bomber jacket and a most memorable fur hat (faux fur we are happy to add). The first campaign image, shot by the brilliant Bruce Weber, was posted by Ghesquiere on Instagram and later by Selena herself on her own account, shows Gomez wearing all black, with bare midriff exposed, clutching at the boxy Petite Malle. A second photo shows the star sporting seriously sexy, wind blown locks on the airport tarmac. If it comes as a surprise that Selena Gomez is now the face of Louis Vuitton where have you been?
The fashion industry has not only welcomed, but embraced Gomez over the past few years. Ghesquière at LV has been very into the “Hands to Myself” singer and has dressed Selena in LV for her attendance at the Met Gala. She’s even been seated in the front rows of the brand’s runway shows for the past two years. Now, onto the second star of the campaign, the boxy Petite Malle bag in question is not a new bag, but only having been released a few months ago it has been made one of the stars of the Louis Vuitton Fall/ Winter 2016 ad campaign. The LV Petite Malle was inspired by Masion trunks, a mod to the by the house’s 160-year heritage as a luxury luggage maker, and they are the perfect hybrid of Monogram canvas and classic hardware. Boxy yes, unique -that’s another tick, iconic – definitely.
The LV Petite Malle has been an instant hit. They say the best things come in small packages , small in stature but high in style! They don’t come cheap, this box of beauty can be purchased for $5200 USD. It has a golden brass finishing, golden brass S-lock, magnetic closure and a removable shoulder strap and measure 7.1? x 4.7? x 1.6? (L x H x W) inches.
Each bespoke miniature masterpieces requires hundreds of minute tasks, all carried out by skilled Louis Vuitton craftsmen, which include meticulously attaching the bag’s body, in trademark monogrammed canvas, coloured Epi leather, lambskin or crocodile leather , to a boxy wooden frame, before fitting the quilted lambskin lining and finishing with brass hardware. These tiny objects are fashion world fascination.
